The second of the new AMP Energy flavors I am reviewing is AMP Energy Relaunch. AMP Relaunch brings up the popular revive theme, which many energy drinks have tried to perfect. There’s obviously a real need for an energy drink that also helps revive and refresh you with electrolytes in the mold of the classic “ade” drinks: Gatorade, Hydrive E, Powerade, and Energade. AMP Relaunch is supposed to revive you with electrolytes and B Vitamins with a burst of orange citrus flavor. I’m proud that AMP has tried to bring this to the forefront of the energy drink world since rehydration along with energy is important for partying, athletic endeavors, and hangover recovery.
AMP Energy Relaunch has a crazy fluorescent bright orange color that is similar to AMP LiveWire. The flavor is a little disappointing. I was expecting a bright orange citrus that was refreshing and clear on the palette. AMP Relaunch tastes like orange soda mixed with a Flintstone vitamin. There’s a hearty dose of vitamin flavor to AMP Relaunch that just doesn’t meld very well with the orange flavor. The orange is petty sedate and is not bursting with flavor. That leaves AMP Relaunch tasting like any standard, generic orange soda that you can get (like Sam’s Choice Orange Soda). There’s not really much tartness to AMP Relaunch and no interesting citrus flavors to help distinguish the orange. It’s pretty boring and uninteresting and I find it one of the least tasty orange soda energy drinks out there. It surely can’t compete with the orange fruit juice energy drinks on flavor like Monster Khaos. The flavor kind of sits flat on your tongue and there’s nothing prodding you to drink more like you have with a really great energy drink. All in all a slightly disappointing drink.
Each can of AMP Relaunch has 220 calories and 58 grams sugar. After that the drink is pretty unimpressive containing only 296 mg taurine and 160 mg of caffeine. Those are pretty low compared to most other energy drinks. However there is also maltodextrin, ginseng, guarana, phosphorous, sodium, B Vitamins, HFCS, citric acid, sodium hexametaphospate, gum arabic, EDTA, and BVO. Having said that those extra ingredients don’t really help out on the energy boost. I would say that the boost from AMP Relaunch is below AMP Elevate though pretty close to the boost from AMP Overdrive. It’s pretty unimpressive compared to other 16 ounce energy drinks. How does it stack up with other hydrating energy drinks? It’s pretty weak here as well. I drank AMP Relaunch after a pretty long run and although I felt like it hydrated somewhat, it was nowhere close to other drinks like the Hydrive line on rehydration and refreshment. All in all another pretty disappointing drink from AMP.
